About Us
First Presbyterian Church has been a part of the Ossian, Indiana community since 1840. Through all these years, our members have consistently lived out a strong witness to the children and families of Ossian. In fact, we sometimes call ourselves Ossian Presbyterian Church, or OPC for short.
During its history, OPC has offered Christian education classes for adults and children.
As a church, we participate in our local food bank, backpack food program for the schools, an active, after-school program for elementary aged children Presby Kids, and LifeWise Academy, a release-time program for children at nearby elementary schools.
We are a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church denomination. You can find out more about what that means in the What We Believe section below.
What Do We Believe?
Here at Ossian Presbyterian, we believe that:
-
Almighty God is eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
-
In mercy, the Father sent the Son Jesus Christ to pay the full price for our sin.
-
A growing, loving, and obedient relationship with Jesus Christ is the one sure path to a full and eternal life.
-
The Holy Spirit teachers us through the Bible, God's trustworthy word and our guide to Christian living.
We exist to:
-
Praise and worship God.
-
Bring others into a saving relationship with Jesus.
-
Help people grow spiritually.
-
Do good works.
We are informed by the Essentials of Our Faith and the three documents of faith held to by the Evangelical Presbyterian denomination (EPC):
The Westminster Confession
The Westminster Larger Catechism
The Westminster Shorter Catechism
You can find copies of all of these documents on the EPC website.
